Chivas de Guadalajara was founded in May, 1906 by Edgar Everaert, a Belgian living in Mexico. The red and white striped flag of Bruges, Everaert's hometown, inspired the red and white stripes on the jersey. Chivas has grown into one of the most popular and one of the most successful teams in Mexico, winning multiple Liga Mx and CONCACAF Champions League titles.

From a squad originally made up of French, English and other nationalities, Chivas now fields only Mexican players, the only club in the country with this policy.

It's the club of Salvador Reyes, Ignacio Calderon, Sabas Ponce, and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez.
